The Indiana Pacers signed forward Andrew Bynum for the rest of the season. I think this is a great signing for the Pacers. It gives them size and he has championship experience that should help the Pacers in the long run and give Miami a tough time in the playoffs. Bynum, who will join the team sometime next week, is also going to be a good backup to Roy Hibbert.
In the offseason of 2012 the Lakers traded Bynum to the 76ers. He never played a game with the 76ers because he hurt his knee during the off season and was out for the season. He signed a 2 years 24.79 million dollar deal with the Cavaliers in the offseason.
He was traded from Cavaliers to the Bulls for Luol Deng, in a salary cap dump for Chicago. They knew they could not win the title this year with Derek Rose out for the season. This trade saves them cap space so they can go after prized free agent forward Carmelo Anthony in the off season. After the trade Chicago waved Bynum.
Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird is happy about signing Bynum. “We are obviously happy to have him join our team,” Bird said in a release. “He gives us added size, he is a skilled big man and he has championship experience. With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”
Andrew Bynum said about joining the Pacers, “It really wasn’t a hard decision, I think it’s the right fit for me,” Bynum said in a statement. “In all honesty, I think we’ve got the best chance of winning. It will be great to back up Roy, and I’ll do whatever I can to help this team.”
