Carmelo Anthony had 30 points, 2 assists and 5 rebounds and hit 8 3-pointers, an NBA All Star game record. LeBron James had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists. Kyrie Irving had an MVP deserving type night with 31 points, 4 rebounds and 15 assists, making it a double-double. Irving ended up winning All Star MVP for his performance..
Blake Griffin scored 38 points and 6 rebounds for the West. His Clippers teammate, Chris Paul, did not have a bad game either recording a double-double with 11 points and 13 assists. The West put up 84 points in the first half but couldn’t sustain the lead. Kevin Durant scored 38 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists, also a double-double for Durant. Both Durant and Griffin were 4 points shy of a record for most points scored by a player in an All Star game.
This is what Kyrie had to say about the East’s game plan going into the game, “The superstars of our league were just telling us to compete on every play,” Irving said. “Trying to play as much defense as possible. You know, sticking to our game plan. We had a game plan going in and we executed.”
