The Anaheim Ducks came into last night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, as the last team in the NHL without a regulation home loss this season. Winnipeg changed that last nigh,t with a 3-2 win, stopping the streak at 22 games.
Anaheim scored on a power play slap shot goal from Cam Fowler, 3:59 in the first period for his sixth goal of the season. Blake Wheeler would then tie the game for Winnipeg on a wrist shot, 5:19 in the first period(18th). Winnipeg took a 2-1 lead on a tip-in goal scored by Andrew Ladd, 18:36 in the first period for his 11th goal of the season.
Winnipeg would then get a comfortable 3-1 lead on a shorthanded goal, and the only goal of the second period from Evander Kane(15th). 15:43 in the second period. Anaheim got a goal in the third period to make it a 3-2 game from Nick Bonino, 10:18 in the third period for his 16th goal of the season, but the Jets would hold on.
Ondrej Pavelec finished the night with 42 saves on 44 shots, and got the win in net for Winnipeg.
Ducks goalie, Jonas Hiller, said after the game about his performance, “Some days you feel better and some days you don’t feel that good,” he said. “The only problem, as a goalie, you see right away if you don’t feel that good, you can’t really hide. Those things happen. I’m not too worried about it. I sure feel bad about it and I’m disappointed”. He was replaced in the third period after allowing three goals.
Leading up to their game at Dodger Stadium with the Los Angeles Kings, Captain Ryan Getzalf spoke on distractions leading up to the Stadium Series. “There are a lot of distractions going on this week with the outdoor game,” Getzlaf said. “Everyone wants to talk about it, and they have been talking about it for the last two weeks. It’s hard to focus in on what you need to do and on the points at the end. That’s an excuse, and it’s nothing that our group hasn’t been a part of before or will be part of again. When there are distractions, we’ve got to learn to play through them.”
